Waiting in My Playpen

Just checked the video cams at the Memphis Animal Shelter. This is the cutie who is waiting to play with adoptees in the lobby today. Okay folks, we need to get some visitors. Right now the baby is taking a nap because business is slow it seems. I wish I could go out there and play with him, but I KNOW I would not be able to leave without at least adopting another puppy — and probably more! The Inn is full right now with three dogs and one cat, not to mention the ferals outdoors.

New and Improved ?

Filed under: Animal Rescue Help Needed — Tags: , , , , , , , , , — tinkerbellsmommakat @ 1:26 pm

As many of you already know from my previous blogs here and on My Southern Mint Juleps, the Memphis Animal Shelter has had some very serious problems. In fact, there was an unannounced raid and inspection done by the proper authorities a few months ago (actually it was on Mayor Wharton’s first day in office). Unfortunately, they found some very sad and serious issues.

Born to be Wild

For those who may not follow The Pioneer Woman’s blog, I wanted to share this beautiful photograph of a couple of the wild mustangs which live on their land in Oklahoma. Ree, her husband, and their amazing family feed and help take care of these beautiful creatures — yet allow them to remain free and wild as they should live their lives. If you have not checked out her wonderful animal stories — and especially the story about the mustangs — please do. I know you will enjoy this sweet story of love for these beautiful creatures, and Ree’s incredible photography and humor. To visit, just click on the photo below which is linked to her site. Hope you enjoy. I sure did.

Wow Glory!

I  just had to share this wonderful photo from a Facebook post by my blogger friend, Bonnie Folz. Bonnie is one of the most amazing animal rescue folks I know. When there are babies to get from A to Z to save their lives, Bonnie will simply NOT ACCEPT THE WORD NO.

Bonnie also was the head of our search for the sweet Westminister whippet, Vivi, who escaped at the JFK airport in New York. Unfortunately, we have never been able to find Vivi despite so many hours of hard labor by so many animal loving folks I have met along the way. Her posters remain though, and her name in the news also, in hopes someday she will be reunited with her family.

Each year New York has a Pet Fashion Week with fashion shows to raise money for needy little animals. Here is a photo of Bonnie’s precious Glory in one of these Pet Fashion Shows modeling some very fine blinge. Now wouldn’t any man like to attend this fashion show? Diane, tell Bill to get those eyes back into his head — okay!

Bonnie also adores Pharoah Hounds and owns several along with her rescues. She has been quite successful in the show ring with her Pharoah Hound babies, but most of all they are her adoring pets and family members.

Isn’t Glory a beauty — and the human model too.

Hello, Want to Go Home?

Yes, this is what I was praying in my heart these two visitors at the Memphis Animal Shelter were saying to the kitty and doggie they were looking at today. Don’t they look like kind folks? I bet they would make wonderful owners. Please take them home. Oh, this video cam at the Memphis Animal Shelter is going to be the death of me yet!

How much is this doggie in the window? I do hope that doggie’s for sale.

Hero Times Five

Trackr was the 9/11 hero dog who located the last survivor, a woman, at Ground Zero. His story is very touching and sweet. You can hear the love and adoration clearly in this video as the owner shares Trackr’s life with us.

Unfortunately Trackr passed away in April 2009 after a very full life of 16 years, but his legacy lives on. This is a story you must hear told so beautifully by the owner in a CNN video. These pups will also be very loved you can be assured — they are a reminder of the owner’s love for Trackr during their 16 years together.

Click on the photo to the left to take you to the CNN video.

Last Dance

Filed under: Uncategorized — tinkerbellsmommakat @ 7:05 pm

This will be the last  post on Tinkerbell’s Momma Kat. I feel trying to keep up my blogs without much interest is becoming wasteful. In time, Tinkerbell’s Momma Kat will be deleted. Please visit us at My Southern Mint Juleps if you want to continue following my blog. Thanks, and have a blessed Holiday Season.

UPDATE on December 18th:  So many nice comments have been sent my way on here and by e-mail. I will keep posting occasionally on Tinkerbell’s Momma Kat. Maybe not as much as before, but when I have a really nice item to share with my animal loving friends.

Are You Safe My Wild Beauties?

Filed under: Animal Interest Stories — Tags: , , , , , , , , — tinkerbellsmommakat @ 11:27 pm

This weekend I saw this beautiful photograph of wild mustangs on The Pioneer Woman blog. My heart sank. Being a city gal and not knowing much about how wild mustangs are cared for, all I could think of with these horses in a large group and a pen was, “Oh my God, please tell me these horses are not being rounded up to take to a slaughter house!”

Well you all know me, I could not rest until I knew these mustangs were safe. I wrote the following in the comments section, and thankfully The Pioneer Woman, or Ree, was kind enough to answer my comment right away. I was amazed as she gets thousands and thousands of comments on her blog. Thank you so much Ree for alleviating the pain in my heart.

On December 6th, 2009 at 12:16 pm Kathleen said:

Ree, why are these horses all grouped together. PLEASE tell me you do not ship to horse slaughter plants. Oh please tell me not!

I represented my state (Tennessee) trying to call our representatives to get the bills passed against this. I really wish you would write a wonderful article against this travesty on your blog. Your voice could really help!

Kathleen, the horses were gathered and put into the pen so that we could wean the colts (who are getting big) off of their mothers (so we don’t have a population problem.) They were in the pens for a very short time one day last week. We care for the horses . . . they are federally protected animals.

–Ree

Not only did she reply to my comment, but she included an incredible post today about why these horses are rounded up like this. It is a method of separating the colts in order to help keep down an explosion of mustangs. You must read her post. It is very interesting, and the photographs are truly amazing as well.

I was so glad when she said people could download the photo above because I really wanted to share this experience with all of you. I will definitely have this printed and hang it in my home as well. I adore wild mustangs, and this photo is incredibly beautiful. Now I can look at it and enjoy it knowing these beautiful animals are safe because of kind folks like Ree and her Marlboro Man in Oklahoma.

Ivy, Theo and Buddy Visit Santa Claus

My brother-in-law in California posted this video of their three dogs (all rescues) visiting Santa Claus. I thought everyone else might enjoy seeing them. You can tell how much they are all loved. The basset hound has an illness (I believe adrenal issue) and the owners were going to have him euthanized. Donja and Rich convinced them to allow adoption, and now they take care of his needed vet care of routine shots. He adores going to the vet and visiting with his friends there too, and needless to say he adores his new family — and so do the English sheep dogs.

Whoops! Here is a correction from Rich about his three doggies. Thanks Rich for the correction. They are all so adorable!

Richard Stephenson commented on his link:

“Thanks – one correction, though – Theo is not a rescue, the other two are. The
other sheepdog rescue was Benson, who we lost just before we got Ivy. Buddy has Addison’s
Disease, which means his adrenal gland doesn’t produce enough hormones – it can be fatal
if not treated. Thanks for sharing the video with your friends – I hope they enjoyed
it.”

Cute Little Ears for Christmas

It was the Night Before Christmas (well, not quite yet), and here at my house,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The puppies were quiet, all snug in my bed,
While memories of turkey danced around in their heads.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a magnificient e-mail, with lots of cute ears.
She spoke not a word, but went straight to her work,
Spoiling these babies, as soon as their birth.
And I heard her exclaim, as she drove out of sight,
A Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
